With its first game coming on March 25th, Lowellville’s Varsity baseball team began their practice in mid-February, usually Tuesday to Friday each week. Due to the ongoing basketball season, however, about half of the team was occupied until the beginning of March. The team does not have any scheduled scrimmages just yet, but they predict they may have one or two eventually.

This new season is joined by yet another new head coach: Mr. Nick Clinkscale. The team has gone through new head coaches every year recently, but Clinkscale offers familiarity with his previous experience as assistant coach of the team. One player, sophomore Brian Harris, usually at third base, commented that Clinkscale is very familiar with the team and each player’s talents from previous years. With only about four or five new players, the team will likely have a seamless transition into their roles this season with their new but known head coach.

With last year’s graduation, the team lost several players. However, the remaining players  believe the current seniors will perform just as good or better. “We lost a few players last year, but it wasn’t a huge loss,” junior Nate Solak, usually at first base or pitching, commented. “This year’s seniors will likely be better leaders.” Brian Harris agreed that this year’s seniors seem more supportive than last year’s. While the team may have lost some older players, they seem confident that the new veterans can step up and lead well. With trusted seniors and a coach that knows them well, Lowellville’s baseball team seems to have a chance for a nice record this year.
